Ramadan 2027
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February and end with Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March, depending on the moon. Here are the dates worth planning around, and how to arrive ready rather than catching up.
When does Ramadan 2027 start?
Astronomical calculations put the first day of Ramadan 1448 on Monday 8 February 2027. The crescent will be sought on the evening of Sunday 7 February, so the first taraweeh would be that night and the first fast the next morning.
Communities that wait for a local sighting, or follow a different authority, may begin a day later, on Tuesday 9 February. Your mosque will announce it; plan for the 8th and be ready for the 9th.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?
Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days. If it begins on 8 February, Eid al-Fitr falls on Tuesday 9 March or Wednesday 10 March 2027. Zakat al-fitr is due before the Eid prayer, so set it aside in the last days of the month.
The last ten nights and Laylat al-Qadr
Laylat al-Qadr is better than a thousand months (Quran 97:3). The Prophet ﷺ said to seek it in the odd nights of the last ten of Ramadan (Sahih al-Bukhari 2017), and when the last ten began he would stay up the night in worship and wake his family (Sahih al-Bukhari 2024).
If Ramadan begins on 8 February, the odd nights fall on the evenings of Saturday 27 February (the 21st night), Monday 1 March (23rd), Wednesday 3 March (25th), Friday 5 March (27th) and Sunday 7 March (29th). Islamic nights begin at maghrib, so each one starts the evening before its day.
Aisha asked the Prophet ﷺ what to say if she knew which night it was. He taught her: “Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul-‘afwa fa‘fu ‘anni”: O Allah, You are forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me (Jami‘ al-Tirmidhi 3513).
Suhoor and iftar times
Suhoor ends at fajr and the fast ends at maghrib. In a Canadian or British February that is a fast of roughly 11 to 13 hours, one of the shortest in years. The Prophet ﷺ said to take suhoor, because there is blessing in it (Sahih al-Bukhari 1923, Sahih Muslim 1095), and that people will remain upon good as long as they hasten to break the fast (Sahih al-Bukhari 1957, Sahih Muslim 1098).

How to prepare in the weeks before
Make up any fasts you owe from last year first. Aisha would make up her missed fasts in Sha’ban, the month before Ramadan (Sahih al-Bukhari 1950), and Sha’ban 1448 starts in early January 2027.
Start moving your sleep earlier now. Suhoor in February ends between about 5 and 6 am in most of North America and the UK, and the first week is far easier if your body is not meeting that time for the first time.
Pick one or two concrete goals rather than ten: finishing the Quran across the month, praying taraweeh most nights, or never missing fajr. Decide them before the month starts, because it moves quickly once it begins.
Plan work and study around it. Tell your manager or professor early if you will want to adjust your hours or step out at maghrib.
